Connect

Get involved in the Network's mentoring community of practice through regular roundtable discussions, cohort learning events, and leadership opportunities.

MENTOR New York's Leadership Roundtables convene mentoring practitioners interested in exploring a specific topic. Roundtables are facilitated conversations where every attendee has an equal opportunity to participate and engage in the discussion. Insights, tips, and resources cultivated during the conversation are leveraged across the MENTOR New York Network to scale effective practices and fuel learning and development for the mentoring movement.

Leadership Roundtable Objectives:

Create community and networking connections between mentoring professionals working in similar spaces
Share practices and approaches to deepen and scale work and impact
Elevate network members and the fantastic work happening
Facilitate discussion to learn where network members could use more resources or specific areas of support
Create future learning agendas to continue to innovate and influence the mentoring field at large

Cohort participants receive access to training modules and resources around specific content on MENTOR New York's learning management system, and commit to attending three virtual sessions facilitated by our staff to support the learning.

Learning Cohorts offer the following benefits:

The cohort learning model facilitates social interaction and collaboration with other professionals. As you progress through the online program, this can enhance your learning experience and sense of community.
Support: The cohort learning experience connects you directly with MENTOR New York program team members and resources for support. Additionally, you can easily connect with your cohort if you need help with a part of the curriculum or want to discuss your evolving program or individual development goals. You can also turn to your cohort for encouragement when you need it.
Because you progress through a program with others, cohort learning provides a structure with set due dates and discussion forums. Cohort members also keep each other accountable (and motivated) to complete learning segments and contribute to discussions.
Cohort learning broadens your perspective. As you engage with cohort members, you’ll be exposed to other programs, approaches, opinions, experiences, and ideas.
Participating in a cohort will allow you to network with mentoring professionals across New York State. You may have similar interests, goals, and/or experiences to some of your peers. Being part of a cohort makes networking and building relationships easier.

The Organizational Changemakers Fellowship is a unique professional development opportunity that helps programs to build capacity and enhance their services using a continuous improvement (CI) approach. Over six sessions, Fellows collaborate to develop an action plan that will implement their change idea in practice. Examples may include elevating youth voice, strategies for diversifying recruitment, and creating spaces of joy.

In addition to 9+ hours of investment in a mentoring practitioner and leader through the fellowship, MENTOR New York provides each participating organization with customized no-cost Technical Assistance funded through the National Mentoring Resource Center.

Selected Fellows receive:

Complimentary admission to MENTOR New York’s 2023 Virtual Mentoring Matters Conference on Friday, March 31st
Custom no-cost technical assistance funded through the National Mentoring Resource Center to implement a change idea within their organization
9+ hours of professional development within a cohort designed to provide support and accountability to implement your change initiative

Daniel Gonzalez

Dan is a Programs Associate at Minds Matter of New York City. Minds Matter connects driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world. Dan strives to lift other first-gens and low-income students as they navigate college and their careers.

Alexxis Briviesca

Alexxis is a Senior Program Manager, LGBTQ+ Programming with Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC. Her priorities align with the necessity to provide the LGBTQ+ community a proactively affirming environment through advocacy, policy initiatives, competency training, and peer support.

Kelsie Qua

Kelsie is the Program Coordinator for Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar. In her current role, she helps promising high schoolers succeed as first-generation college students by leading afterschool sessions, coordinating a community mentoring program, and distributing college stipends. Kelsie enjoys empowering students to achieve their goals through the “coach approach,” which stresses active listening and self-advocacy.

Michelle Jervis-White

As a licensed Clinical Social Worker, Michelle has worked in substance abuse, aging, and mental health. She has been practicing in New York City for over 20 years and founded the nonprofit Girls Mentor Girls in 2019. She is currently a school social for NYC Department of Education, and started her mental health private practice five years ago.

Maria Santana

Maria is a Dominican and Haitian Brooklyn native. She studied Adolescent Psychology and Legal Studies at The City College of New York. Maria has dedicated nearly a decade of her career to youth development work that inspires young people to reach their full potential. She hopes to continue challenging systems and intuitions to strive for social change and equity.

Demishia Owens

Demishia has worked with youth and families for over 16 years. She joined EAC Network in 2005 as a Senior Case Manager for EAC’s Alternatives for Youth Program, before being promoted to Deputy Director and then Program Director. She currently provides effective interventions for alleged PINS youth associated with detention, and support services for at-risk and foster care youth.

This fellowship helped open my eyes to new and unexpected opportunities to elevate youth voices in all aspects of our programming. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to create a more equitable world with our youth through their mentoring work.

Kyra Holiday, Program Manager, Connections Mentoring

Kyra Holiday

Kyra is the Program Manager of Connections Mentoring in the New York City area. She has been working in Social Services for six years, with experience in JJI, foster care and adoption, and mentoring. Kyra is a huge Philadelphia Phillies fan, and she enjoys reading, playing the guitar, and binge-watching Netflix – when she's not making mentor matches.

Zoë Auerbach

Zoë is the CHIME & Young Leaders Program Manager at ESYO. She has enjoyed a varied and full career as a violinist/violist, teacher, and arts administrator. She is the founding executive director of Harmony Project Hudson, a tuition-free music program aimed at helping young people in Hudson, NY realize their fullest potential through the powerful connections forged in the study of music.

Simone Ragland

Simone Ragland is a Licensed Social Worker, administrator, educator, and proud Buffalonian. She has over 20 years of experience providing support services to individuals and families by facilitating parent education classes, family support for individuals with developmental disabilities, and recovery treatment and in-home intensive therapy for children and families.

Taruna Sadhoo

Taruna currently serves as the Director of Experiential Education at Queens College. She is responsible for the management and expansion of several key service-learning, civic engagement, and high-impact internship programs, including the CUNY Service Corps, CUNY Recovery Corps, and Google Computer Science Summer Institute.
